This game is perfect for those wanting a Vital experience without the huge set up and time commitment of his larger games. The combos and actions are super fun, and the components are really nice. The shipping from Boardgame Bliss was also super fast. We are in the U.S. and would order from them again.
Great with kids, even younger ones, without being boring for adults.
Great visuals and materials (as all everdell stuff).
Crates for resources are a bit small, makes it hard for my big fingers to grab something when there are few resources left, but it's a detail. :P
More luck and less mechanics than the original game makes it a good adaptation for younger kids(6-7yo).
I backed this game during the Kickstarter and have played it many times since receiving it. I have a huge collection and it's on my prized shelf and is in my top 10.
This is a sweet gem of a game. The concept of not just trying to collect resources but transport them to where they are needed is brilliant when you have to also prioritize the clearing of ash to make that transport more efficient. The different builds available kept the game super interesting and the use of the rondel in role selection was smooth and engaging. We missed the 2 player rule variant on our first play, but when we tried it found it plays well and doesn't feel cludgy or pasted on like such adaptations usually do. Plays great at 2 but can see it playing well at the higher player counts, too, just increasing play length. This game is undoubtedly a keeper in my massive collection and will be on a shelf next to other favorites.
The learn to play booklets were helpful and while we did find some glitches in the rulebook they were easily navigated. Iconography was everywhere, but after a few rounds was smooth and easy to work with. My biggest challenge was that the gray and brown cubes were starting to look similar by 11 p.m. but that's easy to remedy... I'm tempted to upgrade the resources with generic upgrade options as this game is sooo worth it, though I admit that with all the deluxified games on my shelves I am finding charm in simple wooden cubes. Components are of nice quality right out of the box as is. I feel like there is a ton of content and play in the box when compared to the price tag.
